As noted above (see BB 16 and BB 26), Santander-based musician, singer and producer Roberto Sanchez has been responsible for some of the better roots reggae productions of recent times. Sanchez’s A-Lone Ark Muzik studio has been in operation for about ten years now, though he plunged more deeply into concerted reggae production around 2010, to work with Solo Banton, Tony Tuff, Errol Bellot, Joseph Cotton, Roy Ellis of Symarip and Linval Thompson, to name but a few. The 2013 release ‘Righteous Hand’ re-works Sylford Walker’s ‘Jah Golden Pen’ rhythm for a semi-religious ode about mankind’s ability to make the right choices in life, and the consequences of making self-centred decisions, the vocals tackled by the Nortones, a harmony trio that spun off from Sanchez’s former band, Super Ape; as is typical of Sanchez’s releases, the version side emphasises his players’ tight musicianship and the ‘classical’ roots feel of the work.
